Cargotec to set up container terminals development centre in Singapore
Cargo handling solutions provider Cargotec is setting up a global competence centre for container terminals development in Singapore, the company announced Wednesday, Seatrade Asia online reports. The aim is to strengthen the company's ability to offer total solutions for its container terminal customers in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Cargotec. “In order to better understand customer needs, Cargotec needs an extensive geographic presence and tight collaboration with local customers, partners and other stakeholders,” said Mikael Mäkinen, president and ceo at Cargotec. “Singapore is one of the world's largest ports and it offers a unique view to customer trends, requirements and future needs for research, development and engineering purposes. Our strong presence in Singapore will further enhance our possibilities to develop more customer-driven solutions for future needs.” Cargotec employs some 450 people in Singapore and 10,500 people worldwide. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 40% of the company's total sales in 2010.
