RS to class new LNG carriers for Gazprom
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will classify two state-of-the-art LNG carriers, ordered by Sovcomflot for Gazprom Global LNG, the society’s press release said.
A series of two membrane 170 000 cbm capacity LNG carriers for the charterer Gazprom Global LNG (a Gazprom subsidiary) will be constructed in South Korea. According to the specification, the vessels will be designed and constructed to the RS class with the class notation:
KM (*) Ice2 AUT1 OMBO EPP ANTI-ICE LI CCO ECO-S WINTERIZATION(-30) Gas carrier type 2G (methane)
The classification will be performed jointly by two societies, RS being the leading one. The vessels will be equipped with a tri-fuel diesel-electric powerplant, allowing to use LNG as fuel. Application of gas will enable to cut NOx and SOx emissions, which is important for modern vessels in view of the tightening of international air emissions requirements.
RS Director General Nikolay Reshetov says: “construction of high-tech vessels to the RS class demonstrates our reputation as a leading classification society and strengthens our position in rendering classification services.”
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) established back in 1913 is now one of the leading classification societies. RS is an EU-recognized member of IACS, associate member of INTERTANKO, INTERCARGO and BIMCO.
