China ports throughput grows 14% to 3,64bn tons
Total freight traffic passing through the ports of China in January-May 2011 rose by 14% compared with the same period of 2010, to 3,64 billion tons, the PRC’s Ministry of Transport said. The volume handled for the period at seaports of the country increased by 13.3% to 2,5 billion tons, at river ports - by 15.6% to 1,14 billion tons.
Five-month container throughput increased by 13% from last year’s figures, to 63,8 million TEUs. Boxes volume at seaports was up 12.5% to 57,2 million TEUs, at river ports - by 18.3%, to 6,59 million TEUs.
