New shipyard projects to build LNG carriers, tankers and pipe-lay ships

New Admiralty Shipyards, a new shipbuilding enterprise to be based in Kronstadt (St. Petersburg, Kotlin Island), will specialize in construction of LNG carriers, ice-class tankers, pipe-lay ships, seismic vessels and others. The vessels will operate in the North Basin to serve offshore oil and gas fields, the PortNews correspondent reports quoting USC’s President Roman Trotsenko.

USC’s head told reporters that St. Petersburg Govt will set aside RUB 630m for relocation of existing facilities from Admiralty yards to the Kotlin Island. About 3 billion rubles are expected to be received from the sale of the vacant lots. There have been a few investors interested in purchasing the land, Mr. Trotsenko said.

The total investment in the new shipbuilding complex on the island of Kotlin will be about RUB 35 billion. The project will create 6500 jobs. The new shipyard project will be implemented in 8 years. USC is planning to launch the project’s main phase in 2013-2015 and complete the construction in 2017.
