DCT Gdansk handles its first million

The Polish container terminal handled its millionth TEU yesterday, just three years after opening DCT Gdansk started its rapid growth at the beginning of 2010 when Maersk Line extended its AE10 service into the Baltic with a regular call at the terminal, Worldcargonews reports.

Last month Maersk decided to upgrade the AE10 string with the biggest container vessels in the world, starting with the first call by the 13,000 TEU MAERSK ELBA.

The one millionth TEU was unloaded today from the 15,000 TEU EMMA MAERSK, making its maiden call at DCT Gdansk and its first ever sailing into the Baltic proper.

DCT Gdansk's CEO Boris Wenzel said that since the start of regular weekly calls by Maersk AE10 vessels in 2010 the facility has handled almost 733,000 TEU.
