Port Bronka terminal construction begins

Piling of the first two berths foundation began at the port of Bronka (marine handing terminal “Bronka”, St. Petersburg), the project investor, Phoenix Ltd, the project investor, said.

The company plans to complete the foundation of berths number 3-4 and to commence piling of the foundation of berths # 5-6 next by the end of 2011.

Preparatory works started in January this year.

The new port project includes dredging of 14,4m approach channel.  The general contractor of construction works is JSC "Baltstroy."

The multipurpose handling terminal Bronka will feature three specialized terminals: a container terminal, Ro-Ro terminal and logistics hub. The container terminal will encompass 107 hectares with 1,176m of waterfront , rolling cargo terminal - 57 ha (630m), and the logistics center - 42 ha.

The development of transport and logistics hub at the railyard of Bronka is included in the master plan  of St. Petersburg. The port zone on the southern coast of Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland is recognized as one of the most promising areas of modernization of the regional transport and logistics complex.

The Bronka port first phase throughput is expected to be 1,45 million TEUs of containers and 260,000 units of rolling cargoes. The container and Ro-Ro capacity is expandable to 1,9 million TEUs and 260,000 units. Private investment in the project is estimated at 43.8 billion rubles. The major investor has spent over 3 billion rubles in the project. The port of Bronka is expected to handle the first ship at the end of 2014.
