First Container Terminal, based in Big Port St. Petersburg and owned by National Container Company, has put into service five new Kalmar container straddle carriers, NCC press service said.
The handling equipment was shipped to the port of Kotka (Finland) and delivered to St. Petersburg onboard the Porkhov in the mid-June 2011.
The company plans to expand with new tractor trailer trucks (in September) and RTGs (in December).
The first specialized terminal for handling containers was established in December 1973 in Leningrad seaport. A stevedoring company “First Container Company,” specializing in container handling was formed In October 1998. The FCT company is now part of National Container Company’s stevedoring assets.
The Terminal area - 89 hectares, berths length - 780 meters, depths – 11,5 m. Container yard capacity - 29,5 TEUs, reefer containers - 2850 sockets, throughput – 1,3 million TEUs a year.
