China-based private shipbuilder Jinhai Heavy Industries has won its first containership order from UK-based Graig Shipping to build 26 units of 2,000 teu ships, Seatrade Asia reports.
The first batch of 3 plus 3 ships are scheduled for delivery in 2013, Jinhai announced on its website on Tuesday. “Apart from winning the 2,000 teu vessels building contract, Jinhai looks forward to developing long-term cooperation with British shipowners on projects for this series of ships and others," Jinhai said. Jinhai had earlier this year won orders to build 2 plus 2 VLCCs of 320,000 dwt and 1 plus 1 bulk carriers of 81,500 dwt.
