He said that if opposition had not crept in the way of privatisation, berths 11-14 would by now have been fully modernised and more people employed. Kimunya was speaking yesterday during the launch of a dredging project and construction of berth 19.
But Dock Workers Union general secretary Simon Sang dismissed Kimunya's statement saying privatisation would only have displaced people. "If Waziri is serious about expansion and efficiency let him bring in an investor to work on berths 20-23 which are new," Sang told the Star on phone.
Sang said KPA had already invested Sh40 billion in berths 11-14 and only Sh5.5 billion, which KPA can afford, is needed to fully modernise it.
