Coal exports via Baltic Coal Terminal soar 1.87 times to 1,95m tons

Baltic Coal Terminal (Ventspils, Latvia), a JV of CJSC MPO Kuzbass and Free Port of Ventspils, handled in January-June of this year 1,954,000 tons of export coal, 1.87 times more than in H1, 2010, the stevedoring company said.

In June, the terminal transshipped 454,800 tons of coal, 2.7 times more than a year earlier.

In 2010, BCT’s coal throughput was about 2 million tons. The cargo transshipped at the terminal is exported primarily to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco. The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
