SSA Marine wins $300m Mexico port concession

Port operator SSA Marine won a US$300 million contract to build a key port on the Gulf of Mexico to ship containers, steel and cars to Europe, the United States and South America, reported Reuters.

Construction of the port in the city of Tuxpan will begin by the end of this year to start operation by 2013, the director of the company's Mexico unit Francisco Kassian said.

It will not ship agricultural or oil products.
The port will be connected to a new highway being built by Mexican construction company ICA to give it access to central Mexico, the country's biggest market, Kassian said.

SSA Marine already operates five container and cruise ports in Mexico on both the Gulf and Pacific coasts.
