Safmarine launches new Rumba/Prime 4 service

Safmarine Container Lines will introduce a direct weekly service between the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and East Coast of South America at the end of this month.

The new Rumba/Prime 4 service is the combination of a new Prime string with Safmarine's existing L Class service, which runs from the East Coast South America to West Mediterranean. It will also complement the carrier's existing Prime and Latin American services.

According to Jan Scheck, Safmarine's chief operating officer, the Rumba/Prime 4 service will offer one of the fastest transit times on the market, with 18 days from Santos to Jeddah and 24 days from Santos to Jebel Ali.

The new service will also provide European customers with additional service opportunities between Europe, Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent, e.g. direct port coverage is offered via the port of Genoa in Italy and Barcelona in Spain out of the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East.

Spanish customers of refrigerated cargo will also benefit from the short transit time from Spain to the Middle East with the direct call in Valencia.

The Rumba/Prime 4 service will deploy eleven vessels calling at: Jebel Ali (UAE) > Jawaharlal Nehru (India) > Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) > Suez Canal (Egypt) > Genoa (Italy) > Barcelona (Spain) > Algeciras (Spain) > Tangier (Morocco) > Santos (Brazil) > Itajai (Brazil) > Paranagua (Brazil) > Montevideo (Uruguay) > Rio Grande (Brazil) > Santos (Brazil) > Algeciras (Spain) > Valencia (Spain) > Suez Canal (Egypt) > Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) > Salalah (Oman) > Jebel Ali (UAE).

The first southbound/westbound sailing of the Rumba/Prime 4 service will be the Maersk Danville in Jebel Ali on July 31st, and on the northbound/eastbound sailing in Brazil on August 7th, Eyefortransport reports.

This service will be operated together with sister company Maersk Line.

Revised Prime services for Safmarine are:

        * Prime 1: Jebel Ali (UAE) > Jawaharal Nehru (India) > Pipavav (India) > Salalah (Oman) > Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) > Tangier (Morocco) > Felixstowe (UK) > Zeebrugge (Belgium) > Rotterdam (Netherlands) > Bremerhaven (Germany) > Aqaba (Jordan) > Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) > Jebel Ali (UAE).
