Safmarine, Maersk add India-Middle East-South America service

Safmarine Container Lines and sister carrier Maersk Line will introduce a weekly loop this month, called the Rumba/Prime 4 service, between the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and the east coast of South America, Journal of Commerce reports.The new service will combine the new Prime string with Safmarine’s L Class service, which runs from the east coast of South America to the western Mediterranean.

The new service will deploy 11 vessels on the string to meet growing demand for refrigerated cargo shipping.

The first southbound/westbound sailing of the Rumba/Prime 4 service will be the Maersk Danville departing from Jebel Ali on July 31. The first northbound/eastbound sailing will be the Laust Maersk, which is scheduled to depart from Brazil on Aug. 7.

The port rotation of the Rumba/Prime 4 will be Jebel Ali, Jawaharlal Nehru, Jeddah, Suez Canal, Genoa, Barcelona, Algeciras, Tangier, Santos, Itajai, Paranagua, Montevideo, Rio Grande, Santos, Algeciras, Valencia, Suez Canal, Jeddah, Salalah and back to Jebel Ali.
