Klaipeda container throughput up 49.3 percent to 210,600 TEU

Klaipeda remained the number one seaport in the Baltic countries in terms of container handling in the first half of this year, with TEU traffic soaring by 49.3 percent, year-on-year, to 210,600 units, reported the Baltic Business Daily.

Year-on-year, TEU traffic in Riga rose by 22.8 percent to 141,700, and Tallinn posted a 22.5 percent increase, to 92,200 units, it said.

TEU traffic in Liepaja doubled in the reporting period, to 1,470 units, while Ventspils, another Latvian port, handled no TEUs in January-June.

The Russian port of St Petersburg posted a 35.7 percent year-on-year rise to 1.19 million units in TEU traffic in the first half of this year.
