CMA CGM seeks Asia - Europe box rate hikes

As container markets continue to struggle and lines postpone rate increases CMA CGM is attempting to up rates from Asia to Europe, Seatrade Asia online reports. The French line announced plans to charge a $250 per teu peak season surcharge from Asia to North Europe from 1 August. The line is also rolling out a rate increase on the Asia – Mediterranean trade of $250 per teu from 1 August. The Asia – Europe has been hard hit by a glut of newbuildings and rates are currently at below breakeven level and a number of lines have been forced to delay planned rate increases.
