Maersk exits Port Taranaki

Maersk Line will stop calling at the New Zealand's Port Taranaki from the end of July due to insufficient cargo volumes to maintain a viable service, Seatrade Asia online reports. Dave Gulik, Maersk Line's trade and marketing manager, said on Friday that projected cargo volumes were low for its service into New Plymouth.

Gulik said Maersk Lines is working on alternative arrangements for its Taranaki-based customers.

Maersk Line's decision represents a major blow to Port Taranaki, which has been struggling to sustain port operations with sufficient container shipping volumes.
