The Board of Directors of the Barcelona Port Authority decided on Wednesday to grant to Grimaldi the concession to manage the new terminal as a result of the public tender published last year.
The deal foresees a concession for 15 years, renewable for another 7.5 years, The terminal has an area of 60,000 square metres, with provision for the storage of freight, plus passenger handlingfacilities (a passenger terminal, and a footbridge for the access of passengers from the terminaldirectly to the ships), other ancillary infrastructure will also be built. The planned investment for this project is approximately 20 million euros.
“The creation of the new terminal in Barcelona shows our willingness to offer increasingly high standards of service in order to satisfy the needs of our international clientele," said Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of the Grimaldi Group. "Our aim is to expand and further enhance the wide network of Motorways of the Sea and port terminals in the Western Mediterranean, strengthening the role of Barcelona as a strategic port for the provision of freight and maritime passenger services offered by the Group", concludes Mr. Grimaldi.
