A Thai developer, Italthai, is considering setting up a port at Maungmagan on Myanmar’s southern coast, according to media reports, Dredgingtoday reports.
Estimated to cost $ 5.8 billion, the project will include an industrial centre and will be located on the east-west axis between mainland South-East Asia and India.
Once the work on the new trade hub is completed, industry watchers feel it would lower the time taken to transport goods from factories in Thailand and Vietnam to India by a week.
