Holland America drops Japan from several upcoming cruises

In a last-minute switch, Holland America is dropping Japan from several cruises scheduled for early next year, usatoday reports.

The line announced on Tuesday that the 1,432-passenger Zaandam will sail 14-night itineraries between Singapore and Hong Kong on March 4 and March 18 in lieu of scheduled 14-day sailings between Kobe (Osaka), Japan and Hong Kong.

The new "Asia Explorer" sailings will feature port calls at Koh Samui and Bangkok, Thailand; Sihanoukville, Cambodia; Phu My and Nha Trang, Vietnam.

The line also is replacing a Hong Kong-to-Kobe cruise scheduled for Feb. 19 with a 14-Day "China and Korea" voyage, roundtrip out of Hong Kong. The trip includes two full days at both Shanghai and Xingang (Beijing) and stops in Incheon (Seoul) and Jeju (Cheju) City in South Korea.

The Hong Kong-to-Kobe sailings Holland America is dropping included calls in Nagasaki, Japan and Pusan, South Korea as well as several stops in China.

A Holland America spokesperson did not respond to a question about why the line was dropping the scheduled Japan calls.
