Sea Port of Saint Petersburg Group plans to invest over RUB 1.1 billion in the development of port infrastructure by the end of 2011. Since early this year, nearly 470 million rubles has been invested in the port expansion, the company said.
The port’s railways, railyard and other facilities as well as cranes fleet are undergoing reconstruction and upgrade mainly in the First and Second Cargo areas. The company expects that the program implementation will boost the capacity of terminals for handling metals cargo up to 500 tons a month.
Besides, construction of additional warehouse facilities for storage of imported cars and containers is underway on the territory of Fourth Stevedoring Company (of SP St.Pb Group).
Sea Port St. Petersburg (part of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding) is the largest group of stevedoring companies in the North-West Russia. The company specializes in handling of all types of dry cargo, containers, reefer containers, rolling cargo, automobiles, metals and coal.
The Group includes First Stevedoring Company CJSC, Second Stevedoring Company CJSC, Fourth Stevedoring Company CJSC at Big Port St. Petersburg and Universal Transshipment Complex at the port of Ust-Luga and the number of service companies. At the end of March 2011, Sea Port St.Pb announced the merger of Third Stevedoring Company (TSC) and Sea Port St. Petersburg, in line with the Group’s strategy aimed at streamlining the management.
In 2010, cargo volume handled by the Group’s companies totaled 12.1 million tons.
