In Jan-Jul, Latvian ports loaded 31.07 million tons (+8.8%). The volume of unloaded cargo soared 45.8 percent from a year earlier, to 3.38 million tons.
Transshipment of petroleum products at the country's ports totaled 11.71 million tons, a 18.5-percent gain. The half-year volume of loaded coal increased by 16.8% to 9.24 million tons.Shipment of mineral fertiliser grew 16.3% to 2.26 million tons. Timber volume slightly rose by 0.6 percent to 2.60 million tons. The volume of loaded iron ore shrank by 29.3 percent to 0.93 million tons.
Unloading of containerized cargo in Jan-Jul, 2011 surged by 35.4% to 81 million tons. Rolling cargo totaled 0.59 million tons, 38.1% more than a year before. Grain and grain products volume was up as much as 2.5 times to 0.45 million tons. The six-month volume of unloaded coal totaled 0.30 million tons.
In the reporting period Free Port of Riga handled 16.81 million tons of cargo, a 15.3-percent growth vs last year's figure. The throughput includes 14.96 million tons of loaded (+12.9%) and 1.85 million tons of unloaded cargoes, an increase of 38.9 percent.
Port of Ventspils posted a 6.4 percent cargo volume growth, 14.48 million tons, including 13.55m tons of loaded cargo (+5.2%). Unloaded cargo increased by 27.5%.
The port of Liepaja demonstrated a 16.8-percent increase, to 2.37 million tons. The half-year volume of loaded cargo dropped to 1.79 million tons (-0.2%), while unloading shrank by 2.5 times.
The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the minor ports in the 1st half of 2011 comprised 0.79 million tons, an increase of 18.1%, if compared to the 1st half of 2010.
In the reporting period Riga Passeger Port saw 370,700 passengers, up 14.6 percent compared with the same period of last year, the port of Ventspils handled 19.600 people, the port of Liepaja – 9,000.
