Russia increased coal production 6.9% year-on-year in January-September, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said according to Interfax.
Bituminous coal production rose 3%, including a 7.1% increase in open-pit mining, while deep-mined coal production fell 2.2%.
Lignite coal production rose 21.9% in the nine months, coking coal -1.2% and coal concentrate - 7%.
Russian coal production rose 11.7% year-on-year in September alone to 28.1 million tonnes and was 4.3% higher than in August.
