APL informs on new requirements for Puerto Rico inbound shipments
Effective from 1 December 2011, the Puerto Rico treasury department will require the submission of consignee’s merchant registration number on the inbound manifest for all shipments destined for Puerto Rico. This merchant registration number is an 11 digit number, which consignee would need to advise their shipper to include in the shipping instruction to carrier, APL said Wednesday.
All shippers with shipments to Puerto Rico are advised to start communicating with their consignees and obtain these registration numbers in order to include them in the consignee’s field of their shipping instruction to carrier.
To avoid any delays or holds for non compliance APL reminded its customers to comply with this new Puerto Rico treasury department’s requirement.
APL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines, a global transportation and logistics company engaged in shipping and related businesses.
