Ilyichevsk port’s cargo traffic grows 7.2% in Q3, 2011
Throughput of state-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (SCPI) in the third quarter of 2011 rose by 7.2 percent from a year earlier, to 3,166,000 tons, the company said.
Exports/imports increased by 7.3% on Q2, 2011.
In September, handling of cargo rose by 8.7% compared to last year’s figures.
The September volume gain was driven by increased shipments of bulk cargo (+16.7%) and general cargo (+4.5%). The port saw a 54 percent dramatic growth in exports of iron cargo. Handling of sulfur surged by 40%, imports of vehicles rose as much as 33%, exports of grain increased by 15%, of ore – by 8%.
State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) ranks among Ukraine’s top 4 seaports. The Port of Ilyichevsk encompasses 346 ha, 6km of waterfront with 29 berths. Its handling and warehouse facilities enable import/export freight flows of over 30 million tons a year. In 2010, cargo throughput of the port fell by 7.5% year-over-year, to 15,55m tons.
