Wan Hai to expand service
Intra-Asia player Wan Hai Lines will put into service a new 1,800 teu containership next Friday to expand its long-haul services, Seatrade Asia online reports. Wan Hai 271 is the first of 14 newbuildings to be delivered from Taiwan's state-owned shipbuilder CSBC Corp. Wan Hai placed orders with CSBC for four 1,800 teu vessels, four 1,000 teu and six 4,500 teu.
The remaining 13 containerships are scheduled to be delivered in two years' time, according to Wan Hai.
“Other than renewing the company's marine fleet, the new ship will help us expand our long-haul lines in the future,” Wan Hai said in a statement.
Chen Chao-heng, chairman of Wan Hai, said this was a good time for container shipping companies to order larger vessels, as the slowing global economy may lower the price of shipbuilding.
