Sunk tanker likely hit an underwater object, Rosmorport says

Tanker "Gregory Bugrov" allegedly sank after to she deviated from the course and collided with an unknown underwater object, Rosmorrechflot report said. The object was located in the area of training shooting of the Russian Navy.

Divers have inspected the sunk tanker and did not find any breaches on the hull’s sides. Presumably, the vessel hull was breached in the bottom. Cargo tanks are not damaged. There were no oil spills. The tanker hull will be sealed to pump out water and inspect the sunken ship inside.


The tanker "Gregory Bugrov" (home port of Astrakhan, owner – LLC MorChartering, member of St. Petersburg-based Oil Marine Group,) laden with six tons of fuel oil, on October 13, 2011 was damaged and sank in the Caspian Sea. The incident occurred near the entrance of the Volga-Caspian Canal.
