ICTSI to deploy 8 RTGs at Manila terminal
Port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) will take delivery of eight new rubber tired gantries (RTG) from June 2012 to support the Manila International Container Terminal's new berth 6 operation, Seatrade Asia online reports. The $10.7m new RTGs will arrive in two batches from June next year, in time for the startup of berth 6.
The new order will increase the terminal's RTG number to 45 from 37. The investment will also raise the Manila terminal's current annual handling capacity to 2.5m teu from 1.9m teu.
Higher operational speeds and less exhaust emissions from the new RTGs are expected to yield fuel savings of at least 20% compared to the existing RTGs, according to ICTSI.
ICTSI has also placed an order for two new super post-panamax quay cranes for berth 6. The cranes will enter service in 2012.
