Baltic Shipyard to be awarded contract for diesel-powered icebreakers
The contract for construction of diesel-powered icebreakers is expected to be signed between United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and Rosmorport on December 2, 2011. At St. Petersburg-based Baltic Shipyard (in trust management of USC), a source in the enterprise told PortNews. The signing ceremony will reportedly be attended by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
The contact for construction of four diesel-powered icebreakers (3 – 17MW, 1 – 25MW) will be awarded to United Shipbuilding Corp in accordance with the decree of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Meanwhile, the 9th Moscow district Arbitration Court of Appeal ruled that the transfer of shares of Baltic Shipyard to Central Bank of Russia that in turn handed them over to USC for trust management was illegal.
Last year’s summer the Central Bank allowed repayment of debt by installments of the International Industrial Bank (Mezhprombank) controlled United Industrial Corporation (UIC) within six months, until early 2011. Mezhprombank pledged UIC shipbuilding assets but later was denied a license and on November 30, 2010 declared bankrupt.
