Dry bulk firm Pacific Basin Shipping has established a new office in Durban, South Africa to position itself closer to customers in the broader Southern African market, Seatrade Asia online reports. The Hong Kong-based company is expanding its office network and its handysize and handymax fleet.
Pacific Basin now has a network of 10 dry bulk chartering offices across six continents, and owns and operates a fleet of approximately 150 handysize and handymax vessels with another 25 newbuildings on order.
“Commodity and resource-rich South Africa is already one of Pacific Basin's top 25 trading areas by volume, and the company seeks to realise the potential for significantly greater freight volumes and access to cargo opportunities in the Southern Africa region, which holds a strategically important geographical position between Pacific Basin's two primary trade areas of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans,” the company stated.
