Australia plans new coal ports in Queensland
The Australian state of Queensland has awarded India's Adani Group and Canada's Brookfield Infrastructure Group the development rights to build two new coal export terminals, Seatrade Asia Online reports. The project in the south of MacKay, worth an estimated A$10m ($10m), will have export capacity of up to 180m tonnes a year, 50m tonnes more than the current capacity of the nearby Hay Point port, according to Queensland premier Anna Bligh.
The project will include six rail loops, eight offshore berths and expanded harbour capacity to accommodate more tug boats. Construction is expected to start in 2013.
