Funds for Balga deep-water harbor to be spent for other port projects, Transport Ministry says
Funds allocated from the federal budget for the construction of a deepwater port on the peninsula of Balga in the Kaliningrad region will be redirected to other port projects in the region, a Transport Minister official said.
“The project (Balga port) has failed,” said Deputy Transport Minister Victor Olersky at the meeting of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot).
The official considers as promising the projects for development of Kaliningrad port’s hinterland and creation of an industrial park there.
"It is unlikely that Kaliningrad will become a transit port. “Nevertheless, Kaliningrad has a port potential and we’ll need to develop it,” said Mr. Olersky adding the issue of projects funding is to be considered next year.
