MOL signes contract for Indonesia's coastal LNG tranport
Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) won a contract to transport LNG to a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) operated by Indonesia's Nusantara Regas, Seatrade Asia online reports. The FSRU off Jakarta is expected to support up to 3m tonnes of LNG shipments from Bontang and other Indonesian ports.
MOL established a joint venture with Indonesian shipping firm Trada Maritime to own and operate the vessel LNG Aquarius. The LNG transport operation is slated to start in late January 2012 and the contract runs through to the end of 2022.
Coastal transport of LNG is a new business model for Indonesia, where domestic demand for natural gas is increasing.
