Rosmorport and EBRD ink $155m loan agreement to promote environmental safety in Russian ports
Federal State Unitary Enterprise Rosmorport and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed an unsecured loan agreement for US$ 155 million (EUR 115 m) of long-term funding of an environmental program to be implemented in the Russian ports, PortNews reports from the signing ceremony.
The Project will support capacity building of Rosmorport with the aim of developing its corporate environmental and social policy, management systems and operational procedures in line with best international practice and enhancement of environmental, health and safety standards towards achievement of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. In addition, the Project will support development of Rosmorport’s responsibilities in the area of provision of environmental services to the Russian seaports, related strategy, equipment requirements and operational models based on best applicable international practice.
The funds will be spend for the acquisition of bilge water collecting vessels, oil spillage collecting vessels, mark boats, seafloor maintenance/dredging vessels and other port related equipment.
The Project will enable Rosmorport to improve and centralise the management of environmental protection services at the ports (waste management in particular). The seafloor maintenance vessels will help maintaining and improving navigation safety in the ports. The improved environmental services at ports will provide enhanced environmental risk mitigation and management to the benefit of all port and terminal operators and shipping companies.
Rosmorport intends to invest nearly US$54 million of its own resources in the environmental project to purchase a waste collection and recycling facility for the port of Ust-Luga and an ecological complex in the area of Berth # 20 in Murmansk.
Currently, Rosmorport owns 9 oil spillage collecting vessels, 5 bilge water collecting vessels and a waste treatment plant.
