Cargo traffic at Ukraine’s seaports rises 5.4 percent

Throughput of 18 sea ports of Ukraine in January-November, 2011 rose by 5.4% year-on-year, to 102.9 million tons, the country’s Ministry of Infrastructure said.

Handling of transit cargo in Jan-Nov. increased by 24.9% to 36.4 million tons.

In the reporting period, Ukraine’s ports saw a 7.2-percent growth in outbound cargo to 10.2 million tons, while short sea traffic rose by 7.5% to 2.4 million tons.

In the reporting period, the leading Port of Yalta throughput jumped by 84.3% year-over-year. Evpatoria port demonstrated a 45.6% volume growth, Yuzhny port throughput increased by 25.1%, of Kerch port - by 24%, of Nikolaev port - by 22.6%, of Kherson port - by 22.5 %, of Feodosia port - by 17.7%; of Berdyansk port - by 9.8%; Reni port saw a 7.5% traffic growth, the port of Odessa - an increase of 4.2%; Ust-Danube port - an increase of 4.1%.

According to the Ministry statistics the eleven-month volume of transit cargo handled at the port of Kerch leaped as much as 258.3% from a year earlier. Port Yuzhny reported a 43.7% transshipments surge. Port of Evpatoria handled by 26.4% more transit cargo than a year before. Nikolayev port throughput was up 14.6%, the port of Odessa traffic rose by 13.7%, Feodosia port showed a 9.9% increase; Skadovskiy port - a 7.7% growth; Reni port throughput increased by 5.5%; Port of Illichivsk – by 3.8%; Berdyansk port – by 3% and Port of Mariupol port reported a 2.7% gain in transit cargo traffic.
