NCR saw over 500 idle trains bound to southern ports in January

There was a backlog of more than 500 trains bound to near-dock railyards of the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin this January, the North Caucasus Railway (NCR, SKZD) said on Thursday.

The delays were primarily due to irregular shipments caused by low capacity of the region’s ports, etc., the Railroad CEO Vladimir Goloskokov said.

As the chief of Volga Railway Alexander Khropaty noted that shippers still give priority to freight traffic through the ports of Novorossiisk and Tuapse, instead of other less congested small ports.

North Caucasus Railway company is headquartered in Rostov-on-Don operating the Russian railway network comprising Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Mineralnye Vody, and Rostov passenger and freight railways. NCR links the Sea of Azov and Caspian Sea running through ten southern federal regions of the Russian Federation.
