NCSP Group’s cargo throughput rises 6.9 percent in January

Total cargo traffic across the terminals of Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP Group) in January rose 6.9-percent from a year ago, to 13.8 million tons, the Group's news release said.

In January, liquid bulk volumes were up 5.5% year-on-year (+0.6 mln tons).

Shipments of crude oil totaled 9.9 million tons, an increase of 5.2% from last year's numbers. This growth is attributed to the increase in volumes of Primorsk Trade Port Ltd by 0.9 million tons or by 16.4%.

Oil products volumes handled by the Group in the reporting period totaled 1.7 million tons, including 600,000 tons of diesel fuel exported from Primorsk Trade Port Ltd.

In January 2011 the Group handled 0.57 million tons of grain.

General cargo traffic leaped by nearly 22 percent to 849,300 tons fueled by a 40-percent surge in ferrous metals volume and a 29-percent growth in perishable goods.

Shipments of timber cargo dropped by 50.5%, of non-ferrous metals - by 20.9%, other cargoes by 38.3%.

Container traffic decreased by 13.7% versus January 2011 and totaled 41,700 TEU.

Deputy CEO for marketing and sales of PJSC NCSP Rado Antolovic commented:
“January results were significantly influenced by weather conditions in Novorossiysk. There were eight storm warnings with total duration of more than 12 days during the month. The last time that similar weather conditions were observed was in December 1997. However, despite the unfavorable weather conditions, NCSP Group management team was able to achieve growth in cargo turnover of 6.9% versus the same period of last year”.
