Shanghai box volumes down 3 percent in January

Statistics from the Shanghai government show that the port suffered a 3.3 percent decrease in container volume year on year to 2.6 million TEU in January, reported Xinhua.

Inbound boxes totalled to 1.3 million TEU, remaining at the same level as in January 2011. Outbound numbers dropped 6.3 per cent to 1.3 million TEU.

Inbound cargo tonnage declined 5.7 per cent to 36.2 million tonnes. Outbound cargo dropped 2.9 per cent to 22 million tonnes.
