NOL characterized the contract as a long-term agreement at competitive market rates. It encompasses the intermodal operations of APL, NOL’s liner shipping business, as well as those of its APL Logistics’ auto-related activities in North America.“Intermodal rail transport is one of our core strengths, and we’re pleased to continue providing this service through Union Pacific” said Steve Schollaert, Senior Executive Vice President of the Trans-Pacific Trade and NOL’s chief representative in the contract discussions. “With this agreement, we look forward to years of successful collaboration in support of global trade,” said Jeff Grahovec, the company’s Vice President of Land Operations.
Omaha, Nebraska-based Union Pacific transports containerized cargo for NOL Group’s APL shipping line from the ports of Los Angeles, Seattle and Oakland, California. It reaches major APL inland hubs including Chicago, Memphis and Columbus, Ohio.
APL, the world’s sixth-largest container shipping line, is one of the largest users of intermodal rail transportation in the U.S.
