Cargo handling at Murmansk Marine Fishing Port (MMRP) in January-February, 2012 dropped by 16.2% year-on-year, to 46,100 tons, the Port Authority statistics said. In February, the stevedoring company handled 34,000 tons of cargo, including 26,300 tons of fish.
The volume increase in February is attributed the early start of capelin fishery. Since the beginning of the fishing season MMRP received 28 ships at its berths, handling 20,800 tons of fish. The fishing port’s storage capacity is 13,000-15,000 tons. There are now 7,500 tons of fish in the port’s refrigerators, including 2,500 tons of frozen capelin.
The 100% state-owned Murmansk Marine Fishing Port specializes in handling of fishing vessels, mother ships and reefer vessels. In 2011, cargo throughput of MMRP totaled 276,300 tons.
