Port of Vladivostok traffic down 2.3 percent in Jan-Feb

Cargo throughput at Commercial Port of Vladivostok (CPV, member of FESCO Group) in January-February 2012 dropped by 2.3% year-on-year to 989,400 tons, the CPV statistics said.

FESCO Vice-president Stanislav Vartanian comments: "First of all, in the first two months of 2012 the weather environment was a lot more complicated as compared to 2011, which has affected the regularity of ships and cargo handling. Second, in general, the decrease was in the segment of metals - primarily because the cargoes were shipped from the port in less volumes (while the port’s warehouses are completely loaded with the metal).”

The two-month volume of exports, imports and coastal traffic totaled 513,900 tons of dry bulk, liquid bulk and other general cargoes excluding containers and imported vehicles.

In the reporting period, container traffic at CPV amounted to 63,496 TEUs, shipments of imported vehicles rose to 7,900 units.

In January-February, the port was handling on average 16,490 tons of cargo and 255 units of rolling stock a day.

Commercial Seaport of Vladivostok, member of FESCO Transport Group, owns and operates its assets at the port of Vladivostok, a premier Russian seaport in the Far East region. Port of Vladivostok encompasses 55 ha, over 14 km of waterfront featuring 17 berths with terminals for handling grain, containers, imported vehicles, as well as a passenger terminal. In 2011, CPV’s cargo throughput fell 7.8% year-over-year to 6.38 million tons.
