China ports four-month throughput rises 7.5 percent to 3.08 bn tons
Cargo traffic at the ports of China in January-April 2012 increased by 7.5 % compared to the same period in 2011, to 2.24 billion tons, the Transportation Ministry of China statistics said.
The four-month traffic volume at the nation’s seaports rose 8.8% to 2.14 billion tons, in river ports – by 4.5% to 936.79 million tons.
In the reporting period, container throughput grew by 8.4% from last year’s numbers to 54.16 million TEUs. Shipments of containers through the country’s seaports increased by 8.3% to 48.55 mln TEUs, from river ports – by 8.3% to 4.85 million TEUs.
In 2011, total container traffic at the country’s ports amounted to about 9 billion tons.
