Throughput of Tallinn port down 20.6% to 26.6 mln t in Jan-Nov 08

In January-November, 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 26.601.9 million tonnes of cargo (-20.6%, year-on-year), the port informs.

In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 18.556.9 million tonnes (-9.7%), general cargo – 545,700 tonnes (24.3%), dry cargo – 2.796.8 million tonnes (-62.8%).

In the reported period, the port’s container throughput totaled 167,730 TEU (+0.2%).

Foreign export-import trade totaled 20.631.6 million tonnes (-26.7%), including 2.856.1 million tonnes of export cargo (+12%), transit – 17.775.4 million tonnes (-30.5%). Internal export-import grew by 11.2% to 5.814.9 million tonnes with import accounting for 3.353.8 million tonnes (-1.6%), transit – 2.046.1 million tonnes (+35.2%).

Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa.
