At least five bulk carrier owners have filed lawsuits against Australian Fortescue for a total of USD 135 million, after the mining company’s announcement that it will cancel charter parties due to unforeseen circumstances. Many of the charters were fixed when charter rates were at their highest levels earlier this year. The lawsuits have been filed at courts in USA where Fortescue risks to have its assets frozen.
