Zvezdochka Shipyard contracted to renovate K-84 Ekaterinburg
Zvezdochka Shipyard was chosen as the sole contractor for repair of SSBN Ekaterinburg, according to the order signed recently by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the shipbuilding company said.
The Project 667BDRM Delta-IV class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine was seriously damaged in the fire in the drydock in December last year.
However, the defense order has not been yet readjusted, taking into account that the repair of Eekaterinburg began six months ahead of schedule.
"The issue of signing the state contract for the ship technical capabilities recovery is left open so far," the report said.
Earlier reports said that on August 29 the submarine was placed in the drydock and the shipyard commenced inspection of the submarine hull damage appraisals and survey of outboard equipment, without waiting for a contract.
On December 29, 2011 in the village of Roslyakovo of Murmansk region at the Defense Ministry owned shipyard construction debris caught fire when the submarine was undergoing planned repair. The fire spread to the flammable rubber coating covering the hull, which was damaged as well as the hydro acoustic system. Fire damage was estimated at RUB 1 billion. In February, Mr. Rogozin said the sub repair would cost RUB 500 million.
