First reefer ship crosses northern shipping route
The first reefer ship laden with frozen redfish this year’s summer season successfully passed along the Northern Sea Route, Atomflot press release said.
In morning of September 9 the Skyfrost, a refrigerator ship owned by Laskaridis Ship LTD, loaded with 8,265 tons of frozen fish products reached Cape Desire.
The reefer ship was escorted by the icebreaker Yamal. The voyage lasted 8.5 days.
Another icebreaker “50 Years of Victory" assisting shipping on the Northeast Passage has escorted the tanker STI Harmony carrying 61,401 tons of gas condensate cargo of Novatek to a Chinese port, and the Sovcomflot’s tanker SCF Amur with 44,133 tons of fuel oil en route to Singapore. The tankers covered the Northern Sea Route in 8.2 days, the speed was an average of 12.8 knots.
The 50 Years of Victory is now cutting a path for another tanker the Marinor, owned by Marinvest, transporting 60,992 tons of gas condensate of NOVATEK to South Korea.
Besides, Rosatomflot’s nuclear-powered icebreakers are escorting on the shipping route the Tumcha tug, PLV Nebula and the tanker St. Paul of Marine Standard LLC loaded with 9,255 tons of diesel fuel.
There have been 22 ships so far passed along the Northern Sea Route. Of them 13 sailed the West to the East, 9 – in the opposite direction. The traffic volume has totaled 749,706 tons.
