NCSP Group cargo volumes up 4.1 percent
Cargo throughput of Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port Group (NCSP Group) in January-August 2012 climbed by 4.1% compared to the same period of 2011, to 107.8 million tons, the Group press release said.
The eight-month volume of liquid bulk increased by 2.7% to 88,926,800 tons. Crude shipments in January-August rose 2.1% to 76 million tons. The growth was driven primarily by the commodity transshipments at Sheskharis Oil Terminal (1 mln mt, or up 3.5%). Exports of petroleum products increased by 3.8% to 13.3 million tons, thanks to diesel and fuel oil shipments through Primorsk Trade Port (an increase of 246,000 tons).
Grain exports through the NCSP terminal soared by 2.85 times to 5.4 million tons.
NCSP Group’s diversified port operations enabled it to quickly adapt to changing demand and the Company successfully switched its facilities from declining mineral fertilizers and iron ore to growing cement and ferrous metals cargo.
Thus, in January-August 2012 the Group increased ferrous metals handling by 20.7% y-o-y to 5.9 million tonnes and cement handling more than tripled compared to the first eight months of 2011, reaching 190 thousand tonnes.
The container segment saw modest growth, increasing 3.3% compared to the same period last year.
