China ports eight-month cargo volumes rise 6.1 percent
Cargo traffic at the ports of China in January-August 2012 increased by 6.1% compared to the same period of 2011, to 6.35 billion tons, the Transportation Ministry of China statistics said.
In the reporting period, cargo handling at the country’s seaports grew by 7% from last year’s numbers to 4.37 bn mt, river ports throughput rose 4.2% to 1.98 bn mt.
Container traffic increased by 7% to 114.8 mln TEUs.
In 2011, total container volumes at Chinese ports totaled about 9 billion tons.
