Neva-Metal’s cargo volumes rise 17 percent
Cargo handling at St. Petersburg-based CJSC Neva-Metal terminal in January-August 2012 was more than 1.8 million tons, a 17-percent growth, driven primarily by general cargo shipments (break-bulk), compared to the same period a year before, the Severstal’s stevedore company said.
The eight-month volume of general cargoes handled by Neva-Metal soared to over 180,000 tons versus 60,000 tons a year earlier, which accounted for 10% of overall cargo volumes.
In January-August, shipments of ferrous metal of Severstal’s Cherepovets MP totaled 1.2 million tons.
Export of grab and suction bulk cargo reached about 78,000 tons (some 4% of total freight traffic). Containerized cargoes accounted for 20% of cargo throughput, or more than 30,000 TEUs.
