Port of Tacoma's container throughput up 29.8 percent to 156,804 TEUs in August
The container throughput of the US Port of Tacoma grew by 29.8 percent on the year to 156,804 TEUs in August, mainly boosted by the beginning of the peak season and introduction of two shipping servicesm, reported SeeNews Shipping.
The uncertainty about the labour negotiations on the US east and Gulf coasts also appear to be diverting cargo to the west coast, the port said.
In the January to August period, container volumes rose by 7.5 percent year-on-year to 1.02 million TEUs, mainly driven up by growth in import volumes. The port handled 725,235 TEUs of foreign containers, up by 11.8 percent on the year. However, domestic boxes' throughput fell by 1.8 percent to 299,661 TEUs.
