INS Vikramaditya carrier back to Sevmash after failed trials
Indian Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya, on 23rd September returned back to Semash, the largest ship-building complex in Russia, where it is being rebuilt. The trials have failed due to breakdown of boilers.
In a release, the shipyard said that the ‘marine trials’ are completed and the ship has returned to eliminate some of the defects of machinery, mechanisms and implement some suggestions identified while testing. During the trials in White Sea and Barents Sea, the crew verified working systems including naval, aviation, ship hardware and more. The landing and operations of fighter aircraft MiG-29 KUB, helicopters Ka-27 and Ka-31 were successfully tested.
“I want to thank the team of construction specialists from Sevmash, RAC MIG and the Russian crew for the work that they put into creating and testing vessel. We have a lot of testing, some yet to be. We hope that they will be held immediately after correcting the identified deficiencies, and the ship will be back again in the sea. We are confident that India will receive a good ship, “said the representative of the customer, the Indian Navy Rear Admiral Hari Kumar.
The ship went to sea on June 8. The maximum speed during the tests generated by the carrier stood at 27.9 knots. This is the first time that the shipyard is constructing a ship of the “Vikramāditya” class. The representatives of the commissioning team said that the ship showed excellent handling and excellent seaworthiness.
“Today, I feel great satisfaction from the work carried out by specialists at Sevmash enterprise and numerous partners, who have experienced a complex carrier. The most difficult and tricky part of the test were well done – testing air-ship hardware, testing many electronic weapons systems and their interaction,” said the president of JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation” Andrew Dyachkov. “Now we have to eliminate those problems that have been identified in the sea, in particular, the work of the boiler system. Our specialists understand that the work to be done. The main conclusion that we made is that the ship has transformed into an aircraft carrier,” he added.
